Let There Be Bacon! April Is Blt Month
B.L.T.: Delicious, perfectly-cooked bacon. Fresh, crispy lettuce and ripe, juicy tomatoes. This iconic sandwich is loved so much, it even has its own month! That’s right, April is BLT Month, and duBreton, the all-Canadian farming trailblazer and North America’s number one producer of Certified Humane Raised and Handled® pork, is looking to crown Canada’s BLT champion with its Best BLT contest.
The B comes first, and for good reason. Canadians LOVE bacon. In fact, a recent duBreton survey revealed that more than 90% of Canadians are fans of this tasty treat. The best BLT starts with duBreton’s sustainably-raised and ethically-produced bacon. Available in Smoked or Black Forest Smoked flavours, these thick, generous slices are naturally smoked and made with no added nitrites or nitrates from Certified Humane pork.
The secret to perfectly-cooked bacon is to slowly render the fat. Allow the bacon to come to room temperature by taking it out of the fridge five minutes before cooking and never preheat the pan or oven. The sizzling sound of dropping bacon in a hot pan might be tempting, but this will scorch the meat and cause it to cook unevenly. Lastly, never overcrowd the pan. Bacon will steam while cooking and if the strips are too close to one another, the moisture will get trapped and will result in unevenlycooked, chewy bacon.
