Drew and Jonathan Scott, best knows as the Property Brothers, are proud to host the 5th annual Producers Ball, celebrating film, television and digital production industries.
The 2015 Producers Ball
Now in its fifth year, The Producers Ball has grown to become one of the most anticipated parties in film, television and digital production, attracting major press coverage, celebrities, directors and of course, producers — the backbone of the media industry.
ONtheGO talks with Drew and Jonathan about what makes the event so special to them.
You have been the hosts of the Producers Ball since it began in 2011. How did you guys initially get involved?
We have been in film and TV since we were kids and have always noticed at most festivals or galas that the spot light is not typically on the producers. We wanted to create a way to truly give the recognition to those who make our industry happen. Thus, the Producers Ball was born.
Why is this event so important to the industry?
Our industry is all about fast pace, long days, with little downtime. We wanted to offer an exclusive event where all our peers could come together, set work aside and receive the recognition they deserve.
On your show Property Brothers you accomplish a goal by pooling your strengths. How do your distinctive skill sets come into play when hosting an event like this?
Whether it’s our show Property Brothers, running our real estate company or throwing a great gala during TIFF … It’s all about working with a solid team. We do like to divide and conquer though. This way we can handle more without overloading our plates. This is the only way we can shoot over 60 hours of original programming a year without burning out.
What’s the most fun thing about hosting the event together?
Since TIFF is one of the largest industry festivals in the world, it brings all of our peers together in one place. Since we live in Vegas and spend over 10 months of the year on the road filming, we rely on the Producers Ball to give us a chance to catch up with friends.
This gala has been known to attract some of the biggest names in Hollywood as well as some of our favourite local celebrities. Who are you guys looking forward to rubbing elbows with at the event?
Everyone in our industry knows of TIFF and has been through Toronto for the festival at some point throughout their careers. Whether it’s Hugh Jackman, Katherine Bigelow or Paul Gross, I’m looking forward to seeing all the industry greats that attend the Producers Ball this year!
There is always a lot of buzz about the silent auction. In past years, what were some of the most exciting items on the auction block? What will have the bidders in a frenzy this year?
This year our auction is sponsored by Air Canada and they have offered an exclusive auction item. Return Business class airfare for two ANYWHERE Air Canada flies! And FYI, Dubai is on their flight schedule. 😉
The proceeds of the auction always go to an excellent cause, can you tell us a little about the beneficiary of this year’s event?
Proceeds from the silent auction provide essential support for TIFF. This donation is in support of TIFF’s industry and filmmaker development programmes across four key areas: Community Outreach & Education, Film History & Preservation, Experimentation, and Filmmaker Discovery & Development.
Over 800 are expected for The 2015 Producers Ball — which is by invitation only — to be held on September 11th at the ROM. The gala promises to blow its local and international guests away with wild theatrics, a “wunderment” theme, digital integrations, and social media installations.
The 2015 Producers Ball is presented by Scotiabank and is in support of TIFF.
