Two Humber alumni returned from Abu Dhabi with their luggage a little heavier, thanks to winning bronze in the WorldSkills international competition.
Avery Bird and Theo Willert are recent graduates of the Electromechanical Engineering Technology program. They qualified for WorldSkills after winning gold at Skills Ontario and Skills Canada.
They work at Magna Plastcoat in Brampton and trained for the competition through Humber’s Springboard Mentorship program, which gives recent graduates the chance to work while also training for competitions and mentoring current Humber students.
“We started our journey in the first week of our program, and spent long days and nights perfecting our skills,” says Willert. “Without Humber and all the people in it that supported us, we would have never gotten to this point.”
