Sparking People To Create A Healthy Environment
EcoSpark was formed as Citizens’ Environment Watch in 1996 by prominent scientists, including Dr. Ursula Franklin, in response to provincial budget cuts in environmental monitoring. EcoSpark is now a successful charity whose mission is to empower communities to take an active role in protecting and sustaining their local environment through fun, entry level and easy-to-access activities.
Since 1996, EcoSpark has sparked over 65,000 youths and adults to create healthy environments in over 20 watersheds and 15 school boards across Southern Ontario. They achieve this through outdoor environmental education, citizen science and civic engagement in key land use issues.
Teachers! Join EcoSpark in sparking the next generation of environmental leaders. Sign your class up for a hands-on water quality investigation in your local stream or register for PD to gain new knowledge, skills and confidence to integrate outdoor education into everyday lessons.
