My Kind of Beer with Chris Goddard
Keeping up with all of the new summer beer releases can be tiring, thankless work. Some of these arrive on the shelves at your local LCBO or Beer Store while others are only available direct from the brewery and in very limited quantities. And sometimes when you snag one of these little beauties it just doesn’t match up to your expectations which can be disappointing. Enter your summer beer festivals.
There are many reasons a beer lover (or aspiring beer lover) should head out to one of the many festivals this summer.
July 8th–9th, 2016 — Pier 4 Park, Hamilton
Taking a day trip to Steeltown isn’t as hard as one would think especially if you use the Go Train. This great little festival has been gaining a lot of traction over the last couple of years and boasts a line-up of some usual suspects as well as some of the smaller craft brewers in Ontario. They also have a great line up of music, a home brew competition and a speaker series so you can brush up on your smarts. Look for local newcomers Garden Brewers and their eclectic line of beers.
SUMMER CRAFT BEER FEST
July 14th, 2016 — Liberty Market Building Galleria, Toronto
This fest happens in the middle of Liberty Village and is ready and waiting for you at the end of your work day. Not only do they have a convenient location in a great neighbourhood, they also boast an amazing line up of beers for you to try. You can also feel good knowing that a portion of the proceeds go to the well-deserving Canadian Music Therapy Trust Fund. Look out for new-comers Sextant Craft Brewery with their amazing Pale Ale.
July 15th–17th, 2016 — Victoria Park, Kitchener
If you have a family and dream of the “good ol’ days” of beer festing with your buddies — fear not! This Ribfest/Craft Beer festival is FREE to get into, family-friendly, and full of music, beer and ribs! It really doesn’t get much better than this. Believe me — this festival is worth the day trip to Kitchener. Try out local brewers Abe Erb and let me know what you think.
TORONTO FESTIVAL OF BEER
July 24th–26th, 2015 — Exhibition Place, Toronto
The Grand-daddy of them all — TFOB as those in the know call it — is THE place to enjoy beer. This festival has grown with the times and offers brews for every type of beer fan in your life — whether you are a craft beer nerd or a “macro” beer drinker. This year they are featuring a whole whack of beers from Sweden including many different brands from Omnipollo, Brekeriet, Dugges, Poppels, Tempel and Gotlands. You won’t be able to get these beers anywhere else except TFOB (but there may be a teaser of some brands at the Bier Markt leading up to the festival).
