Jon & Darla Montgomery | WaterAid Canada
Everyday each of us walks to the sink, fully anticipating clean water to come flowing plentifully out of the tap. What would you do if suddenly there was no water? Just imagine — no showers
after your run; no water to quench your thirst; no flushing your poop down the pipes and out of your life. Just imagine.
For 663 million children, women and men globally this is reality.
The global water and sanitation crisis is one of the most deadly, yet preventable, public health emergencies facing the developing world today. To end this crisis once and for all, Canadians are coming together from coastto-coast, uniting, to bring clean drinking water and sanitation to everyone, everywhere by 2030. They also have the most amazing leader.
This November Jon Montgomery, the legendary host of Canada’s most popular television show, The Amazing Race Canada and Olympic gold medalist will take on a new challenge! Montgomery along with his wife Darla will lead a group of intrepid Canadian cyclists on a 500km journey across Costa Rica and Nicaragua. All in support of WaterAid Canada.
The 10-day cycle will take the group from San Jose, Costa Rica, to Managua, Nicaragua. With each pedal stroke these Canadians will help get us closer to ending the global water and sanitation crisis. Each participant has their own motivations for participating, but each have a shared transformative vision of a world where everyone has access to their basic human rights. Funds raised as part of this epic adventure will help bring lifesaving clean water to some of the world’s poorest and most marginalized communities.
Using low-tech and sustainable technologies, WaterAid was able to reach over 2 million people — the equivalent of 200 each and every hour — across 26 countries in 2014-15. In 2015 WaterAid was
recognized by GuideStar’s Philanthropedia as the number one international non-profit working in the water and sanitation sector.
WaterAid Canada’s Bucket List Adventures is a five-year series of epic adventures that aims to raise over one-million dollars for clean water projects across the world. Together, the Montgomery’s and members of the public will raise awareness and much needed funds to aid the over 650 million people globally who lack access to safe water, and the many more who lack
access to sanitation and proper hygiene facilities.
