Get Floored In 2017
by Linda Mazur | With a new year comes new design trends! We always hear about the latest trends in paint colours or finishes for our kitchens and bathrooms, but what about something more practical such as our flooring? Here’s the latest and greatest that we will be walking on in 2017.
Over recent years we have been seeing many wonderful styles of flooring, from beautifully distressed hand-scrapped woods to wide plank, from elegant exotic species to a throw-back to vintage inspired flooring — our choices are now endless. In 2017 you will continue to see many of these looks along with the introduction of great new colours and a continued desire for sustainable products. So … let’s breakdown some of these products and looks.
WIDE PLANK FLOORING
is a fantastic look in so many applications, and will continue to be so throughout 2017. It offers a luxurious look to your home and is available in many finishes from beautiful vintage inspired antiqued woods to an oiled finish. The stunning worn look of natural oiled woods combined with a massive wide plank will make a dramatic statement in any home. One of my go-to flooring manufacturers offering an abundant selection of the hottest new flooring trends while never failing on quality and durability is Kentwood Flooring.
has never lost its popularity. Whether it’s hand-scrapped or wire-brushed the finish is simply beautiful. It’s a look that is applicable to many design settings, from rustic to urban chic it allows for an elevated relaxed look to your living space. PATTERN PLAY continues to be integral in 2017 and flooring will be no exception. We will see a vintage influence in such patterns like herringbone re-emerging to add charm and nostalgia to our designs. The dark espresso colours we had been seeing for so long are finally exiting to make way for lighter, softer grained woods like walnut and hickory, and we are seeing a movement towards many great shades of greys and ashen-toned browns. Unlike a trending colour or pattern for our décor and accessories which are much simpler to change out, when it comes to flooring we tend to see trends in finishes and colours that will offer a greater longevity to our designs. Whether you choose a wide plank natural oil finish or a classic 4-inch walnut, you will be sure to find that your flooring selection will offer you many design options for years to come.
