Ever since buying and renovating their first property at the tender of age of 18, identical twin brothers, Drew and Jonathan Scott have taken the real estate market by storm. Almost two decades later, this dynamic duo have successfully established the Scott Brothers brand globally with hit TV programs, Property Brothers, Buying & Selling and Brother vs. Brother.
So far, what city has been the most fun to shoot in?
Austin’s motto is “Keep Austin Weird”, so that automatically gives you an idea as to how eccentric that city is! We had a lot of fun living in Austin for about 8 months, enjoying the sites, the food, music and the people. Everyone was so friendly and easy-going!
Your TV series Property Brothers and Buying & Selling really shines a spotlight on Toronto’s real estate market. Do either one of you have a favourite neighbourhood in our city?
We are really enjoying being back in Toronto to film. Toronto is great during the summer. I especially love Yorkville for the patios.
I’ve stayed in Greektown before and love that neighbourhood. The food is amazing
You two are busy guys, shooting in Canada and the US. Aside from adding more hours to the day, how do you pull off filming two shows at once, year-round, all over North America?
Passion and efficiency! You have to love what you do to be able to keep going. We’re also very lucky to be surrounded by a wonderful team of people who are talented and just as hard-working as we are.
Having watched both shows it’s evident that you guys really enjoy what you do. While I’m sure both shows are close to your hearts, is there one that you prefer to shoot?
It’s like asking a parent to pick a favourite child!
Which is easy 😉
I really do enjoy them both equally for different reasons I love being a part of the major transformation that is Property Brothers where we literally change a person’s perspective when we turn an old, dated fixer-upper into someone’s dream home.
On Buying and Selling, I really enjoy being a part of a process that many loathe simply because they don’t know where to begin and selling is such a huge task. It’s exciting to help home owners close off old chapters and start new ones.
If I have to base it off of which show gives me more screen time, then I’d say Buying and Selling, haha. I also love it because it is such an essential part of a family or home owner’s life having to relocate for whatever the reason may be and we’re happy to be a part of that process, making it as enjoyable and successful as possible.
Given the popularity of your shows I’m sure neither one of you can go anywhere without being recognized. How often are you two confused for one another on the streets? Do you ever just let the fan believe that you are the other brother?
If I’m wearing a cap and haven’t shaved my beard in a couple days, I do start to look more like Jonathan.
I sometimes just let the fan believe that I’m Drew if they are mistaken.
It’s part of the fun of being a twin!
The Producers Ball is obviously something near and dear to you both. The behind the camera work is certainly just as important as what is in front of the lens. Now in its 4th year and taking place the day before TIFF, what can we expect from this star studded event?
Our guests will be blown away this year it’s going to be unlike any other festival party they’ve experienced. We’re very excited for the big night!
The Producers Ball team has been working hard to make this year unique. We love raising the bar each year, in everything we do, and this event is no exception. It will definitely entertain and inspire.
The auction for World Vision is an amazing feature of the Ball. What is expected to be auctioned off this year? What was the coolest thing on the auction block last year?
We’re so happy to be supporting World Vision again this year. In 2013, our amazing donors provided us with items like original Dr. Seuss artwork, exclusive travel and shopping packages, wine country experiences, amongst many others. This year, the auction (which will also be open online to all of our fans) will tout one of-a-kind items, such as television and film memorabilia, valuable TV/ film production services and packages, entertainment experiences and designer fashion items.
What can we look forward to this fall from the Scott Brothers?
We have a lot of exciting projects that we can’t wait to share with everyone. A lot of what our fans have been asking for will finally come to life! We’ve just completed a major renovation of our own family vacation home in Vegas and the series special will air soon so stay tuned for details!
