Jonathan and Drew — the Scott Brothers — are well known for their popular hit television series, Property Brothers on W Network. Always on the move, constantly creating something new, and working hard to help homeowners realize their dreams, the Scott Brothers took some time to answer some questions for ONtheGO, just ahead of one of the biggest parties of the year, the It House X Producers Ball…
This year you are teaming up with NKPR at TIFF for It House X Producers Ball, after several years of running your own event what sparked this partnership?
We have been friends with Natasha Koifman, owner/founder of NKPR, for a very long time. Over the years we have co-hosted several charitable events together and NKPR has had one of the largest gifting suites during TIFF for more than a decade. Partnering with Natasha to create this one-of-a-kind experience during festival season seemed like a step in the right direction.
What can we expect at the event that we won’t see anywhere else?
This year we have our celebrity Portrait Studio with famed photographer Caitlin Cronenberg. As well, the Fandango media lounge will be the go-to spot for all celebrity interviews during the festival. We always like to keep a little something fun and surprising for our IT House by Producers Ball guests, but what we can say is there’s a reason we’re considered the most exclusive event in town;)
With proceeds going towards Artists for Peace and Justice, can you tell our readers why and how you got involved with that organization?
We have always been very involved with charitable organizations that support children. APJ has done some amazing work building schools for children in Haiti, giving them the education they need to see their true potential.
Your new book ‘Dream Home’ shot to the top of the NYT Best Sellers list, along with the Wall Street Journal’s; what does that tell you about the current state of home owners/buyers?
We see our book Dream Home as the next best thing to having us at your home in person for the renovation. Whether you own or rent, our book is meant to inspire you. To get you asking the questions you need to ask yourself before starting a project. Whether the real estate market is hot or cold … People still have to live somewhere. Dream Home simply gives them the opportunity to make that space a little more comfortable.
From your perspective, what is the number one mistake prospective home owners are making in 2016?
Planning and education. This is a reoccurring problem. Home owners want to improve a space but they’re not putting in the effort to understand HOW to improve their space. If you’re trying to tackle a project in your home that you are not experienced at, or can’t easily learn to do well, you should bring in a professional. The quality of the finished work is so important, and valuing your own time is also a key element.
From multiple television shows, to books to TIFF, what has been most difficult about balancing all your projects?
There are not enough hours in the day. LOL. We have so many different passions and it is a daily struggle to balance our drive and sanity! But I will say that the biggest key for us is having a strong team. Otherwise there is no way we would be able to accomplish all that we do in a day.
Your fans want to know, what’s next for the Property Brothers TV show?
Our shows are going strong and we’ll continue to film in new and exciting locations. Currently we are filming a new series, Brothers Take New Orleans, where we are rebuilding a house that was affected by hurricane Katrina. We also have an exciting Halloween special that will be announced very soon where we are teaming up with Tia Mowry and Duff Goldman from Food Network, along with a couple of other TV personalities. We always have something fun to share with our fans. Stay tuned…
