Humber Students’ Winning Designs On Sale At Target
For a designer, getting a product from concept to creation and onto store shelves is an interesting challenge.
Humber students Michelle Tran and Loussine Ayrapetyan have managed it before they’ve even graduated.
The duo, who are in their fourth year in the Bachelor of Industrial Design program, won first prize in “for students. by students,” a design competition sponsored by global housewares company Umbra. Their winning Fliptop Laptop Tray can be used to do work or eat meals, and is now available in more than 1,500 Target stores across the U.S
“This was a great opportunity,” says Tran. “I gained practical experience working with an actual client from a huge company. Getting a product I co-designed (in stores) while still a student is so awesome. It’s very rewarding knowing all your hard work paid off – definitely a life-defining moment!”
At Humber, our career-focused programs incorporate hands-on, practical learning both in and out of the classroom, allowing you to get the experience you need for the career you really want.
