Hands-On Experience In The Humber Food Truck
HUMBER’S BRAND NEW FOOD TRUCK IS ON A ROLL.
It’s already appeared at several summer events, including Toronto’s Ribfest and Pan Am celebrations at Humber’s Lakeshore Campus. Now, it’s a popular dining option for students as well.
The truck’s menu emphasizes healthy, fresh food and has included items like chicken skewers with soba noodles, tuna wraps, and turkey burgers.
The portable kitchen is the only student/faculty-run food truck in Ontario.
Jennifer Balana and Shanika Perera, second-year Culinary Management students, have been helping staff the truck all summer.
Both say working in the food truck has given them a unique learning opportunity. It’s also just one of many hands-on experiences they’ve had while studying at Humber.
“Culinary Management is a good program to take before becoming a chef or opening a restaurant,” says Balana. “I’ve had a lot of great experiences with catering, working at events and volunteering.”
