Lucile Pratt Music Award
Leaving A Charitable Legacy Is Easier Than You May Think!
Lucile Pratt’s story is like that. Lucile was passionate about music and dedicated to sharing it with young people who normally wouldn’t have access to it.
In 1991, she established the Lucile Pratt Music Award at Toronto Foundation. Lucile enjoyed many years of supporting organizations that teach children the performance of light and classical music.
Lucile passed away in 2005 at the age of 98, and Toronto Foundation became the steward of her important legacy. Honouring the direction provided by Lucile, each year Toronto Foundation identifies and invests in organizations that are reaching youth through high impact music programs.
Today, charitable organizations that didn’t even exist when Lucile imagined her legacy, like Sistema Toronto, have reached new heights through her generosity. Sistema Toronto provides free, ensemble-based music lessons to inspire children at risk to realize their full potential.
Recently the Lucile Pratt Award provided more than 100 new instruments for expansion of the program into two new centres in Scarborough. The executor of Lucile’s estate was awed by the gift and remarked, “I’m still digesting the thought of so many instruments! Lucile would have been tearfully delighted that she was able to help bring the joy of music to so many young people.”
