Used Car Buying… 4 Key Steps Before You Sign
Buying a used car can seem daunting for many consumers. It’s not just about colour and price. Finding the right car for you is important, and finding the right car dealer can make all the difference.
FOUR STEPS TO A BETTER BUYING EXPERIENCE
1. SET A BUDGET:
In addition to price, consider your ability to get financing, insurance rates, cost of fuel and ongoing vehicle maintenance. Driving a car that costs more than you can comfortably afford can become overwhelming.
2. EVALUATE YOUR NEEDS:
Will the vehicle be used for daily commuting, long distance driving, in-town driving or just leisure activities. Having a 2-seater sports car when you need to be taking the kids to hockey just isn’t going to work.
3. DO YOUR RESEARCH:
Find out as much as you can about the type of vehicle you’re interested in. What options are available and how much will you pay for them; research the vehicle safety rating, fuel efficiency, and reputation.
4. CHOOSE YOUR DEALER:
Before you purchase, check whether the dealer is a UCDA member; can your vehicle be serviced locally; are you offered any guarantees on the vehicle; do you know the important facts about the car you’re buying; can you easily contact the dealer if there are any problems?
With almost 5,000 member dealers in Ontario, the UCDA sign (Used Car Dealers Association of Ontario) offers confidence to consumers looking for a fair used vehicle buying experience for both the consumer and the dealer.
