PARA’s colour of the year Cherries Jubilee highlights why reds are not to be ignored
PARA Paints, an integral part of the Canadian decorating landscape for over a century, announced its 2016 colour of the year — Cherries Jubilee (P5079-85).
“Colour is emotional and has the ability to awaken the senses, calm nerves and make hearts skip a beat. Red does all of that. Think of red lips, red rubies and red cars — all are classic and gorgeous accents,” said Janine May, Colour & Design Marketing for PARA Paints. “Home owners often shy away from using red, but we want to highlight the feeling of luxury it can create in any space.”
Cherries Jubilees represents the statement bold reds have made in fashion and beauty; it also signifies revolution, change and femininity, given the influence politics and current events have on home décor and design. “Red is tied to everything from food and fashion, to history and politics. Simply put, reds have long been a symbol of power, passion and energy,” said Garry Belfall, Brand Manager at PARA Paints. “That is why we want to reintroduce it as a powerful colour that can be easily incorporated into a home’s décor.”
PARA’s 2016 trends palette promotes the use of complimentary hues to enhance a red accent. Pair it with a brilliant white like Crysler Hall White (2118-00) or neutral tones such as Memory Overload (5222-34) and use it in a room with wood furniture or floors. The key is to balance red with other neutral tones. A saturated red, such as Cherries Jubilee, works well with heritage blues, delicate porcelain tones and a variety of warm neutrals. Consider integrating red into a space with a statement red furniture piece with awesome character, a wall niche or art above a fireplace mantel and complement it with warm metal finishes such as gold, rose gold or gunmetal for a polished look.
