Ontario’s Pharmacists Are Ready To Offer More
This March, during Pharmacist Awareness Month, Ontario’s pharmacists want you to know the valuable ways, beyond filling prescriptions, that they can help you achieve improved health outcomes.
MORE“Pharmacists are highly trained medication experts and provide value far beyond their dispensing role,” says Sean Simpson, Chair of the Board of the Ontario Pharmacists Association. “And there is still a lot more we could be doing to help Ontarians stay healthy and keep patients with non-urgent issues out of emergency rooms and doctors’ offices.”
Ontario is one of only a few provinces that doesn’t allow pharmacists to treat common or minor ailments such as diaper rash, athlete’s foot and pink eye. This is one example of how leveraging the unique expertise and accessibility of pharmacists can improve timely access to care, reduce or reallocate healthcare costs to where they are most needed, and improve the efficiency and effectiveness of our healthcare system.
