Toronto Paramedic Services want residents of and visitors to the City to know whom to call for emergency medical services and when to call them.
We are very fortunate in the City of Toronto to have many health care options available to us, but it isn’t always easy to navigate our health care system or to know how to Make the Right Call. It isn’t always appropriate to call 911 for a paramedic. Knowing when it might be more appropriate to call Telehealth Ontario, visit a walk-in clinic or your family doctor can sometimes be confusing especially when you are concerned about your health or the health of a loved one.
The best advice Toronto Paramedic Services can provide our residents is this; if you consider yourself or a loved one to be in an immediate life-threatening situation, such as having trouble breathing, someone is choking or has suffered a traumatic injury from a fall, car accident or cut, don’t hesitate, call 911 for the Paramedics. We have the best Emergency Medical Dispatchers, Paramedics and Operations Support people in the business and we will be where you are in minutes. Our Emergency Medical Dispatchers can also provide help in over 170 languages!
If however — you are not in an immediate life-threatening condition, for example, you have been sick with the flu for a few hours or days or suffering from a stubborn cold or a painful sprain or strain, try calling Telehealth, visiting a walk-in clinic, your family doctor or an urgent care centre for assessment and further treatment. These choices can provide you with excellent health care in those circumstances.
