Germany Celebrates with Canada
“A true friend” is how Prime Minister Justin Trudeau referred to Germany on his recent visit there. Germany is taking Canada’s sesquicentennial as an opportunity to celebrate the warm rapport between the two countries with Germany @ Canada 2017 — an exciting cultural program across Canada.
Today, Germany and Canada are closer than ever — not just as trading and strategic partners — but in their shared values. Open to the world. Embracing diversity. Combatting global warming. Taking down rather than putting up walls.
Friendship between countries is a precious thing, which is why Germany is joining in Canada’s 150th anniversary celebrations this year. The Goethe-Institut in Canada, the German embassy and many partner organizations have joined forces to present Germany @ Canada 2017 — Partners from Immigration to Innovation / L’Allemagne @ Canada 2017 — Partenaires: del’immigration à l’innovation, a year-long cultural festival with over 40 events in Toronto, Montréal, Québec City, Edmonton, Banff, Vancouver, Halifax and beyond.
Exploring themes of identity, belonging and reaching out, the program stretches from cabaret to cyber-feminism, interactive installations to documentary theatre, sea creatures to mountain culture, film screenings to academic conferences. Featured artists and partners include megastar Ute Lemper, performance collective Rimini Protokoll, and the imagineNATIVE Film Festival.
Germany @ Canada 2017 brings a dynamic sampling of contemporary German culture to Canada, while also highlighting the ties that bind the two countries together. Our shared values are not to be taken for granted and what better occasion than Canada’s sesquicentennial to celebrate the German- Canadian friendship with this fireworks of cultural events?
