From field to kitchen
SOYBEAN PRODUCTS, LOCALLY GROWN AND GOOD FOR YOU!
NOW THAT Fallis in full swing and the winter season is around the corner, you might be looking for new meal prep ideas. If you are looking for a healthy, protein-rich snack, incorporate soy products into your next meal. They are not just great for kids, but adults too.
The best part? Soybeans are grown locally across Ontario by farm families. Soybeans are planted in May and harvested in September. Across Ontario there are 2.6 million acres of soybeans grown and harvested each year, so you might see them in a farmer’s field near you.
Ontario grown soybeans are top quality and are exported around the world to countries like China, Netherlands, Belgium, and Japan — and that is something to be proud of. They are also used locally in Canada to make food products like tofu, soy sauce, and animal feed.
Soy products are “filled with protein and fibre, so they will keep you full through to the dinnerhour,” explains Lisa Mardlin Vandewalle a registered dietician and Ontario grain farmer.Soybeans are a healthy addition to your next meal and can be found in a variety of production grocery store shelves.
Soybutter is just one example of a locally produced soy product. Soybutter is an easy way to add extra protein to your snacks and meals. “Soybutter is similar to peanut butter, but itis nut free,” says Mardlin Vandewalle. This means it is perfect to take to school or the office!
