A Safe Future For All
Everybody is aware the baby boom generation is getting older, but did you know that 1,000 Canadians turn 65 every single day and will continue to do so for the next 20 years? Unfortunately as our population increases in age so do the rates of illness and injury. This is anticipated to put an enormous amount of pressure on our already strained health care system.
Luckily, vital measures are being taken to offset this trend — and the Toronto Rehabilitation Institute (Toronto Rehab) is at the forefront. Toronto Rehab is a member of the UHN family, and is Canada’s largest academic health sciences centre dedicated to adult rehabilitation and complex continuing care. With six sites across the city, Toronto Rehab facilitates personalized care for serious injury and illness including: stroke, heart disease, brain and spinal cord injuries.
Toronto Rehab isn’t just about getting people back to living, they are also determined to prevent illness and injury from happening in the first place. Toronto Rehab is home to iDAPT (Intelligent Design for Adaptation, Participation and Technology), the world’s largest state-of-the-art rehabilitation research facility. Like something out of a science fiction novel, here the brightest minds on the planet are brought together to develop innovative technologies, advanced treatments and practical solutions to real-life problems. Using cutting-edge and simulator technologies, teams of engineers, scientists, doctors and designers are able to study how people interact with the world around them to develop better protocols, systems, building codes and technology — ultimately making our streets, homes and workplaces safer.
